I’ve been using Google webmaster for over a year now. Although I still consider myself as a newbie in blogging, I’ve already learned a lot from this useful Google tool.

However, one of the things that I’ve learned is the inaccuracy of the tool when it comes to measuring backlinks. From my experience this webmaster tool most of the time doesn’t count some of the significant backlinks you’ve made from other sites. And most of the time the number of backlinks that show on the “Links to your site” area is not updated.

Since Google is managing millions, if not billions, of sites all over the planet, it can’t provide you 100% accuracy when measuring backlinks. It’s because of the enormousness of the data that Google manages.

So if you want to measure your total number of backlinks on your blog, there is one accurate alternative. This is through the use of Yahoo Site Explorer. Yahoo is the number two, second to Google, search engine on the Net. Also since Yahoo is not as exhaustive as Google, it can provide accuracy when it comes measuring backlinks. Here are the steps on what to do in measuring backlinks or” inlinks” using Yahoo Site Explorer.

First go to Yahoo.com and type these texts in the search box: site: www.url.com. change the “www.url.com” to your own url address. Click “Web Search.”

After you’ve reached the Yahoo Site Explorer page, click “Inlinks.” Refer to the image below.

After clicking “Inlinks,” the  page would look like the image below.

Notice the encircled symbol above, click on the drop down and choose “excerpt from this domain.” Then choose the drop down beside “Entire site.” After doing this, hooowah, the page will now show your total number of backlinks of your site.
